Port-au-Saumon Ecological center
Ecological Center of Port-au-Saumon, a remarquable one hundred hectare site bordering the St. Lawrence River, is a core area of the Charlevoix UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. It hosts land and marine ecosystem educational activities.
Salt water basins near the shore provide visitors with an opportunity to view and handle starfish, sea urchins, fish, mammals and more. Interpretation trails wind through the site.
Two guided wildlife tours are offered here:
The short tour of about 45 minutes allows visitors to acquaint themselves with the Saguenay and St. Lawrence’s middle estuary marine fauna, while observing marine organisms along the riverbed basins.
The long 2-hour tour introduces guests to various characteristic ecosystems of Charlevoix, taking them to admire a 15-meter waterfall, along a 2-km trail and then out to enjoy basin activities.
The Saguenay-Saint-Laurent Marin Park is located nearby.
